The "British Buddy Alumni Big Band" is a 17 Piece Jazz Orchestra featuring prominent Chicago Jazz vocalist Ms. Frieda Lee.  Formerly known as the John Burnett Swing Orchestra (which played at FitzGerald's once a month for some 16 years), the band was recently resurrected by Bill Byan, (John's Drummer) after John Burnett retired from WDCB Jazz radio and relocated to Virginia. The Jazz Consortium Big Band is a swinging, rocking, roaring 17-piece Chicago big band that celebrates the best swing and jazz-rock big band music. Since its inception in 1975, the Jazz Consortium Big Band has featured well-known music from such iconic big bands as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller, and contemporary big bands like Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson and Thad Jones-Mel Lewis, plus original compositions by band members. Led by saxophonist Roy Vombrack, this Chicago area big band's songbook appeals to all ages. From the classic “In the Mood” to its jazz-rock interpretation of “Fanfare for the Common Man”, the Jazz Consortium Big Band is a crowd-pleaser.
