St. Charles Singles Club

Social dances are held the 2nd, 4th and 5th Mondays of each month starting at 6:30pm with a 1 hour dance lesson. Open dancing takes place from 7:30pm - 11:00 pm with music provided by DJ Fred Everett. Admission is $6 for members and $8 for visitors. Proper attire is required at all dances. The attire for 5th Monday dances is dressy/nice casual.

First Thursdays of Month - 9:30pm - No Cover    A night of drinking, dancing, socializing, networking and non-stop music since 1991. For die hard rockabilly devotees and civilian music fans. Over the last decade, this highly organized vibrant jam session, held the first Thursday of every month at Martyrs', has become rockabilly central for many of the musicians & fans of Chicago's American roots scene. Although the monthly jam is devoted to rockabilly, the Big C Jamboree has also offered the span of '40's-'50's American roots music from Hillbilly Boogie to Western Swing, Jump Blues and 1st generation Rock-n-Roll. The night is run swiftly and simply: a host band performs a short set, followed by a myriad of roots musicians who do 3 songs each. The party like atmosphere includes socializing, drinking & dancing galore while the rotating line-up onstage usually features the raucous sounds of pompadour rockabilly musicians wailing away on upright basses and hallow-bodied electric guitars; and there's NEVER a cover! Big City Swing
 

On the First Friday of every month, Big City Swing hosts a dance at the studio. They start with a beginning swing lesson and then open up the floor for DJ'd dancing. You’ll have the opportunity to dance with folks of all abilities, as partners rotate throughout the night. And when you don’t feel like dancing, just relax and take in the scene. Light snacks (something salty and something sweet) and water are provided. And, it’s BYOB (for our 21+ guests only).

Doors Open: 7:45pm
Lesson: 8:00 – 8:45pm, Beginning Swing*
*No experience or partner necessary
Dancing: 8:45pm – Midnight
Music: It’ll be perfect for East Coast, Lindy Hop, Charleston and Balboa!

The Route 66 Hop features rock ‘n’ roll music of the ‘50s and ‘60s.  A complimentary sock hop dance lesson is provided from 7 – 8 p.m.  The Del Souls will provide ‘50s dance music.

**Parking and Public Transportation:
There is plentiful and free street parking on Ravenswood directly in front of the studio. The studio is also accessible by public transportation via the El, Metra, and city buses. From the Irving Park Brown Line station walk ~6 minutes (0.3 miles) North on Ravenswood. From the Ravenswood UP-North Metra station walk ~15 minutes (0.7 miles) South on Ravenswood.

Folks from the community gather for an evening of dance and fellowship. Lessons are provided and a DJ is included!  Phil and Tandy Malinak, Swing Dancing Hosts.  Now on the second Saturday of each month beginning October 2010.  Come join us for this free, once-a-month Saturday night event hosted by a dancing couple from First Free, and DJ'ed by people from the vibrant swing dance community of Chicago. Our downstairs fellowship hall is transformed for the evening into a dance lounge with soft lights; plenty of floor-space; and exciting Blues, Big Band, and Jazz tunes.

An introductory lesson in Swing is given from 7pm-7:30pm, and the dance lasts until 10pm. We welcome all ages, and can set aside a separate space for younger children if safety is an issue, but please be aware that we do expect parents to continue to be responsible for their children at all times. Feel free to join us at any time during the evening, with or without a dance partner - You can always find someone to dance with while you're here!

We are so excited to kick off the Spring semester with a completely FREE dance at the Union on Saturday, January 29th! There will be a free beginning swing lesson for all those who have never danced before/those who would like to brush up their skills! If you are new to the Illini Swing Society and would like to learn how to swing dance, now is the perfect time! The beginning lesson will be immediately followed by social dancing until 11:30! We encourage EVERYONE to come and join in the fun! No special shoes or dance partners are required. Hope to see you there!
